AMILO Xi2550, what FireWire chipset?

Postby shortlived » Wed May 21, 2008 1:39 am

I need a laptop with a built in Texas Instruments firewire chipset for pro audio use. I hope Xi2550 has it as the overall specs look awesome.
Please could someone that has one, preferably with T8100/300, 9300 series processors go to system properties/device manager and check what it says for the IEEE 1394 bus host controller. Local stores don't have Amilos in stock so unfortunately can't check that myself.

Thank you!

My device manager only tells me that it is OHCI-conform. No manufacturer, no vendor, nothing.
Everest says nothing more.

I will check with Linux again, when I have the time.

hikaru thanks for reply but are you sure? Did you double click it? I've just been able to check the AMILO Si 2636 locally and the make is Agere.
IF ANY Xi2550 OWNERS, PLEASE COULD YOU CHECK IT FOR ME! IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!

Thanks so much!

Yes I double-clicked it! But Windoze was not willing to give me further details.

I checked it with hwinfo from debian again, and it seems to be a Ricoh-module:

Maybe this helps other users to help you since hwinfo is included in Knoppix and can easily be installed via synaptic in Ubuntu.

BTW I quite recommend Amilo Xi2550 as it runs surprisingly smoothly. The wireless device, USB, firewire, all ACPI related stuff like suspend, hibernate etc work properly on Linux. Even the ATI driver didn't crash on my machine so far... (Previously I had Acer TravelMate and that was really painful compared to this).
The only problem I have is that ALSA sound driver doesn't recognize the headphones insertion and keeps the speakers playing. And of course... the small built-in subwoofer doesn't work at all. I hope I'll find some solution shortly...

I hope this will help you to decide.
