HDD limit Amilo Pro V8010

Postby delta » Tue Jul 01, 2008 7:26 pm

Hi anyone that have any advise?

I now own an Amilo Pro V8010 that I have provided from my school after graduating this spring and now I have full privileges to upgrade and examine my computer without the computer technichian going ballistic.... :D

And now to my question....

Does anyone know the harddrive limitations for a V8010? Fujitsu-siemens only provide up to 80GB of storage. Is it possible to have any higher than this? (Want to have a 160GB drive for 482kr roughly $80)

I am also buying 2 Corsair Value Select 1024MB SO DIMM DDR2 533MHz for about 390kr ($65)
and a Samsung SN-S082H DVD±RW- (±R DL-) / DVD-RAM IDE 332kr ($55)
If anyone has any objections to these objects in terms of making my laptop go bye bye please tell me!

I hope to say thank you to someone soon! :D

HDD:
I don't know if 160GB will be supported. 120GB will be supported but everything beyond 128GB cannot be granted to work.

RAM:
The Corsair modules should work. But there were some complaints about Corsair notebook modules. MDT, Kingston and Samsung have proven to be more reliable.

DVD:
This should work.

Ok well this helped me and i will try to find a cheaper 120GB drive for my laptop since i thought that the 160GB had a better price ( a little cheaper than the 120GB drive)

Thanks for the info on the other components aswell very helpful :D

Will think about buing or not (economics not very well now) :x

I have now spotted a new HDD and would like to know if there could be any problem with this HDD
Western Digital Scorpio 120GB 8MB WD1200BEVS SATA

Most likely the 160GB drive will work too but it might happen that you can only use 128GB of it.

If you are short of money you might also consider other modifications:
Look for DDR2-RAM that is specified to run with 667MHz. Normally these modules are cheaper than the 533MHz modules. They will throttle down to 533MHz and work in your notebook.
I don't know why you want to change your DVD drive. The only difference that I see is the support for some double layer DVD types and DVD-RAM. Do you really need support for these media?

The drive in my computer is not as fancy as many other V8010 in my school they gave us the budget variant of the Amilo Pro V8010 therefore no DVD burner only a CD burner and DVD reader.....

and about the DDR2-RAM 667MHz...
are the SO-DIMM slots in the V8010 backward compatible and won't the notebook be harmed in any way by the faster RAM or vice versa.....

No the notebook is not backward compatible. But the RAM is.
667MHz modules might get bored but not harmed. ;-)

I once had this model too, was very satisfied with it and still use it as an external drive.
I wouldn't expect any problems.

Ok thanks help was very much appreciated and now the component list is the following:

Western Digital Scorpio 120GB 8MB WD1200BEVS SATA---------------------------------$82
Corsair Value Select 2x1024MB SO DIMM DDR2 667MHz VS2GSDSKIT667D2-----------$64
Samsung SN-S082H DVD±RW- (±R DL-) / DVD-RAM IDE----------------------------------$56
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------total:$191

Does this seem resonable?
or is it to much?
the price might be a little higher in sweden than in the rest of the world....
