amilo d 7830 DEAD

Hi guys,
I am new to your forum desperate for some help.
My son bought the laptop about 5 years ago, mega expensive I thought.
It died some months ago, no power lights, wont boot.
I have been given it to play with or rip my few hairs out, dont know.
The only light that comes on is the small green light in the mains charger. Nothing on the laptop.
I have opened the bottom up and removed the main battery. I assumed this was dead and ordered a new one. Still waiting. With mains power connected I can now see that not even the fan spins, no sign of burns, faulty connections, damage. I decided to remove the cmos battery and check its voltage. 2.49v, this has been replaced with a fresh one. Still no further forward. The laptop will not light up to show charger is connected and cant POST.
Any ideas where to go now apart from the tip.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi All,
New information.
I have just swapped out the HDD and it is not faulty. Using my XP disc the amilo HDD onto my other VERY OLD IBM laptop it was up to the point where it would do a repair or clean install. This suggests that the HDD is ok. I didnt want to go further to avoid formatting and losing all my sons files and data.
OK. What does this suggest. Mobo , processor ???????????????

Back to basics. When I connect the mains adaptor nothing lights up on the laptop. The small green light on the mains adptor does light up. No fan movement, no clicks, beeps etc. I checked out one of your other mebers ideas re the small screen lid swich, finding a little button operated by a protrusion on screen frame, this had no effect.
Question when only the mains adaptor is connected, without a battery fitted, should at least something show on the laptop. It does with my old ibm.
Thanks in advance.

Hallo All,
Main problem solved. New battery fitted and after a short charge the laptop came back to life.
Further question though. The new battery is charged fine from AC but without the battery fitted the laptop wont run from mains.
Could this be a BIOS setting thats wrong.
Thanks for any response.
