Install new hard drive

Postby g8chk » Sat Aug 02, 2008 5:41 pm

I have an Amilo Li 1718 runing Vista fine BUT there are programes that I want to run that wont work on Vista, not correct drivers so I want to remove the hard disk and put in a new one and install XP, keeping the old Hard disk incase of a warranty claim. I am aware of the issues of installng XP on a sata drive and how to proceed.
I cannot see how to remove the hard disk, I have removed some obvious screws and located a possible hd but I can only see one end and there is a tape which may be attached to the hd?
Is this the hd, should I just pull it?
Any one help please.

I don't know your notebook. Therefore I can't give you a clear advise.
Can you please upload a photo of what you described?

I don't know if you resolved this issue, but this may help- to remove the existing hard drive, after removing the black plastic cover(2 screws) there is a black plastic tab attached to the end of the hard drve caddy. Just steadily pull on this to extract the hard drive in it's caddy.
To remove the hard drive from the caddy, there is a single (maybe 2) silver screw on the side nearest the tab, unscrew this and the drive can now be slid out of the metal caddy.
Installation of a new HDD is reverse of this!
Good luck!
