CPU, RAM and Fan upgrade[PI 1505]

Postby Scorp-D » Sun Aug 10, 2008 6:27 pm

Hey.

I think I got the slowest of the PI-1505's and have decided to make an upgrade on the CPU, Ram and Harddrive; currently this is what I wanted to change:

T2050 (1,6GHz, 533 MHz, 2MB L2 cache). ------> T7200 (2.0GHz, 667 MHz, 4MB L2 cache).

1024MB-533MHz DDR2-533 PC2-4200, 200p SODIMM, 1.8v. -------> 2 x 1024MB-667MHz DDR2-667 PC2-5300, 200p SODIMM, 1.8v(FPCEM218AP).

1) Do I have to upgrade the CPU fan? Or is it the same fan in all the 1505 models?

2) What kind of socket is the CPU? 479?

3) Is there a 2048 MB-667MHz DDR2 module that the 1505 supports (instead of having two 1024 MB).

as far as I was aware the highest spec proc you can get for this model is the t2700.
I plan on getting the t2600 and not changing the fan.

Okay…

I have just used these spec’s: http://sp.fujitsu-siemens.com/dmsp/docs ... i_1505.pdf .
Don’t know if they are misleading me…

And as far as I know, even though T2700 has 0,33 Ghz more then the T7200, the T7200 still is the fastest with its 4 MB L2 Cache….. But that doesn’t matter if the 1505 don’t support it….

But please correct me if I’m wrong…

The T7200 should be faster than the T2700.
The first reason is the bigger cache and the second one is the different processor-generation. Two processors of different generations can't be compared by just looking at the MHz-specs.
You can also install the T7600. The datasheet is just too old to list it. But I doubt whether it is worth the price.

What I don’t understand is, where I’m from the price for the T2700 (868 USD) is more than double the price of the T7200 (403 USD)! Is that just a typo?
So is it the T7600, T7400 and T7200 that are supported?

No, it's not a typo. The T2700 is the top model of the Core Duo series. The idea behind the price is, that somebody who wants to have the best CPU that is available for his architecture will pay a high price. If your notebook doesn't support the Core 2 Duo this means you will search for the T2700.
It's the same for the T7600. If you have a notebook with socket M this will be the strongest available CPU - so pay for it!

Your Notebook supports all socket M-CPUs. This includes the T7200, T7400 and T7600.

Would the T7600 (model BX80537T7600, socket M) work without an upgrade to the CPU fan?
If I want support for the T7200-T7400-T7600 I have to upgrade my bios, right?

You will not have to upgrade your CPU fan.
A bios upgrade shouldn't be necessary. At least there is nothing written in the changelog concerning the T7x00-series.
