fs or munufacturer drivers?

Postby bailout » Thu Aug 14, 2008 10:39 pm

I am going to reinstall XP on my laptop (pi1505). The fs site has drivers but many of these are older than the versions on the component manufacturers sites. However, the manufacturers all warn against using their generic drivers and say you should use the oem ones ie those from fs. Is there any real danger using the manufacturers ones or should I just stick with the fs versions. I know when I used to play games it was often best to get the latest but I had made my pc from generic components. I just use the laptop for general browsing and office so will I get any benefit from the latest drivers? I seem to remember people recomending using the synaptics drivers rather than fs ones because they gave more options.

thanks

The warnings of the manufacturers are only due to legal reasons. It's the same thing like all these warnings sounding like: "this product isn't fit for any purpose"
There is a very little risk that the drivers will not work together correctly but if you need cutting edge technology you shouldn't care about it and just see if it works.

On the other hand the FSC drivers might be old but if you don't need them to play the latest games just enjoy the comfort to know that they will work and that you don't have to search for them all over the internet. These drivers are not bad, just a little bit dusty. If you see later that one or two are too old for your purpose, just get a newer one.

In the end it doesn't really matter which drivers you use.
