random restarting amilo 1818

Postby nwhessian » Sun Sep 21, 2008 1:38 pm

Hi
Didnt expect to find a forum dedicated to the amilo's, very handy!
My laptop has recently started to restart at random intervals.
Did a search and found a few people with similar problems.
I think it must be overheating but just wondered if their is a log or something to watch internal temps? If there are sensors for this that is.
It seems to restart without much regard to what im up to at the time.
I also have problems sometimes with the laptop going into sleep/standby sort of mode, black screen etc and i end up having to hold the power button down to switch it off and then restart it to get it working?
Any help/advice much appreciated, i have got warranty, return to base etc but dont want to return it until i know its not some setting etc?
Thanks
Neil

Normally here is a blue screen when your notebook reboots automatically. Please search google how to deactivate this automatic restart. Then you will see the blue screen and you can post the exact error message. This will make it easier to help you.

If you suspect the temperatures to be to high, get a program like Everest and report the temperatures you measured here.

In most cases problems with sleep and suspend modes are due to dirty drivers of third party devices or problems in the bios. Unfortunately there is no fix for your model. I can only recommend you to disable this feature.

Cheers for the help, had the tech support people on the phone, wiped it and re loaded windows but it still restarts.
I dont get a blue screen even with the restarting bit turned off as you recommended.
I think its something mechanical, if i push the casing a little in the bottom left, right where my hand is when i type it restarts it so something must be loose i think.
Its in warranty so looks like they will have to sort it.
Anyone else had this problem, done a search and found a few bits on google with similar fault.

I know this is an old thread, but i can help without Google. To disable auto BSOD restart, do the following:

1. Reboot or turn on your computer

2. Just after the POST routine, hit F8 a few times. Windows Recovery menu appears. Select "Disable automatic restart on system failure".

If a Blue Screen is happening, you'll see it. Post the details of any STOP errors here, and we'll help. The chances are it may be a bad driver or RAM. I'd recommend you clean out your heatsink too, it's under the service cover on the bottom. Don't forget to renew the thermal paste too, i always do this every 6 months on a laptop.
