Laptop shut down half way through Windows installation

Postby MMURRA21 » Tue Oct 07, 2008 10:39 am

Wonder if someone can help!!! My silly father switched on his new Amilo Li 2735 for the first time, to which it started going through the windows installation process, however he switched the laptop off half way through it.

Now it boots up and takes you to a screen that says "unexpected error on startup. Windows cannot be installed. Click OK to restart the computer, and restart windows installation". Can't go any further than that.

I didn't get any disc with it as windows was pre-installed.

Any suggestions please???

You can try to restore the system from the recovery partition. To do that you will need 3 DVD+R (-R sometimes causes problems).
Press F8 while the system boots and some recovery-menu should come up to burn the DVDs. If all of the DVDs are done boot from the first one.

Thanks, i'll give that a try when i'm home. If I remember right, I had already went into F8 and i'm sure there was no option to restore the system from the recovery partition. I will give it another bash though and advise how I get on.

I don't know if you can recover windows directly from the recovery partition.
But you should be able to create the recovery-DVDs from there and recover it from them.

I have tried all the bog standard stuff, but stivell cannot get it to work. The system recovery disc does not work either. The next thing I will try will be a clean vista install with my current vista licence. Fingers crossed.

Oh by the way, I cannot create recovery DVDs from the F8 option :(

The recovery-routine is known to be very buggy, so don't waste time with it if you have a Vista-DVD.
Have a look at the underside of the notebook, there you will find a sticker with the license-key of the preinstalled Vista. You can use this one and don't have to use your own one.
