Amilo Li1816 - "Disc Read Error"

Postby Singe » Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:17 pm

Hey everyone; looking for a little help from those more knowledgeable than I.

I have an Amilo Li 1816. On pressing the 'power on' button the Fujistu-Seimens loading screen appears as per normal, and then I am confronted with the following message:

A disc read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

Having consulted with others, I assume this means I need to reformat the HD. As my notebook came with Vista pre-loaded and no recovery discs I assume I have to do this from the recovery partition. Can anyone tell me which key it is I need to press during startup to get this recovery partition to kick into gear and reload everything back to factory settings? I realise that this will restore my notebook to how it was when I first bought it, hopefully solving my problem?

Any advice on how to get the damn thing to work again would be most appreciated. Thank you.

If it's eally only a broken file system you can access the recovery partition by pressing F8. But this requires Vista at least to try booting.

... so your guess would be that it's not a broken file system?

Did you try to access the recovery partition via F8?
I don't know it for sure but if you can't start the recovery I guess that your HDD has a physical damage.

I would recommend you to get the diagnostics tool for HDDs from the manufacturer of your hard drive and scan the drive.
If you don't know who is the manufacturer try SeaTools by Seagate. It should work for the most drives.
