Is it possible to upgrade the lcd screen?

Postby Lost Heaven » Mon Sep 04, 2006 4:05 am

At this time I'm quite happy with my screen, I have a M3438G with a WSXGA lcd screen (1440 x 900). It just bothers me some times the resolution limitation to 900 pixels, mainly on some games without wide-screen support. You are limited in this case to "non-wide" resolutions that have it's vertical limit lower or equal to 900.

So I was just wondering if anyone has made, or if it's even possible, a lcd screen upgrade on his Amilo. In my case, I would like to know if a lcd screen on a M4438G could be installed on a M3438G (i think the only difference on the screens is that the M4438G is a WUXGA (1920 x 1200)).

Cheers!

I am not totally sure, but i can not see, that there would be a problem.
Could anyone post,if the M4438's power supply has the same power as the M3438's?
If it does,it should fit, because the display has the same size(17 inch) as well.

I checked on Fujitsu-Siemens documentations that came with my laptop (they're common to the 3438 and the 4438) and there's only a general information about power specifications, so I guess it's common for both systems. Not sure tough:

Power system
Li-Ion battery, 8 cells, 14.4/ 14.8V / 4400mAH
Approximately 2:00 hrs battery runtime, depending on usage1
Dynamic charge supported, ACPI 2.0 supported
External universal AC adapter: 110 – 240 V AC, 50 - 60HZ, output:
120 W with 20V DC, 6Amp

By the way: some interesting specifications about the two displays I found on the docs:

Display
17” TFT WXGA+, CrystalView
Resolution (physic.) 1440 x 900 (AMILO M3438G)
Brightness (typ.) 200cd/m2
Contrast (typ) 400:1
Viewing angel 120°/ 140°
Response time (gtg) 16ms

17“ TFT WUXGA, CrystalView available in Q3/2005 (optional)
Resoultion (physic.) 1920x1200 (AMILO M4438G)
Brightness (typ.) 185cd/m2
Contrast (typ) 350:1
Viewing angel 100°/ 130°
Response time (gtg) 25ms

HDTV 1080 Compliance with standards (WUXGA only)
ISO 13406-2 class II

Man, it would be great to find a damaged 4438 for sale on ebay with a good lcd, and install it on my 3438. I just wanted the 1200 vertical pixels...

you could change the screens. The only difference between M3438 and M4438 is the screen with higher resolution. But you would lose the warranty if it was not done by FSC's service. This is pretty expensive.

Think about buying an external screen.

Is it possible to upgrade the lcd in Pi1536? I've got 15.4" (1280x800). If I find a better resolution display, will any lcd fit? What should I know before buying a new (better) display?

Where did you buy this monitor? It's just depends on the services they offer. If they accept to upgrade your monitor, you are lucky. But you will expect that you will be able to pay for the upgrade.

maybe a bit unusual for a laptop, but if the video card can make use of a higher resolution screen, and you can find one that fits the necessary specs, it might work? Though it would be great if they made it easier to upgrade graphic cards on laptops.
