Amilo Pro V3515 CPU 21mhz???

Postby mattmorriss » Sat Nov 08, 2008 11:52 am

Hi

TuneUp Utilities is stating that my processor is running at 21mhz and needs upgrading to a faster processor to run my current OS (Vista).

I have recently installed new memory, 1gb-2gb but this has made no difference whatsoever, it keeps freezing whenever i try stream media from sites or play videos on WMP or VLC and browse, basically anything that whacks the CPU usage up to 100%, it will eventually crash, albeit intermittently.

Do i need to upgrade my processor as TuneUp says? and is 21mhz normal?

thanks

No, 21MHz is not normal. This frequency was normal mor than 15 years ago. You sould have a frequency between 1.5 and 2GHz.
Please test with another operation system (e.g. a linux live-cd) if you have this problem with other systems too. If you don't, reinstalling windows should solve the problem. If it remains even in linux it is a hardware problem and you should call the official support.

thanks Hikaru.

Ive also done a hardware scan and it says the processor was clocked at 1994, which is right as its a 2ghz.

Current Clock Speed 1994
Description x86 Family 6 Model 14 Stepping 12
Manufacturer GenuineIntel
Name Intel(R) Celeron(R) M CPU 450 @ 2.00GHz

Total Memory Deteced in Hardware: ~2048 MB
Memory Reported to Operating System: 1790MB

Is TuneUp misinforming me? or is it right when it says 21mhz. Perhaps i just need a better processor as it works fine untill i start to do more intensive stuff like stream media or play videos. The CPU tends to spike to 100% then and eventually itll freeze.

TuneUp is definately missinforming you. Even if the CPU is idle and clocked down it still runs with 1GHz.
Watching Videos (non-HD) shouldn't even cause it to clock up.

My father had similar problems with his desktop-PC (causeless spikes and freezes). It was a windows-issue and reinstalling windows solved his problem.
