Vista on 3438G

Postby mrcreativity » Thu Sep 07, 2006 11:37 pm

Has anyone successfully installed Windows Vista RC1 on a 3438g? I installed it and everything worked fine except the video. For some reason, none of the drivers i downloaded from various sites worked. Does anyone have any ideas?

Why schouldn't it work?
The m3438 has everything that Windows Vista needs, doesn't it?
More than a 1Ghz Cpu,a DX9 compatible Graphics Chip and at least 512 Mb of Ram.
I think you will find the drivers soon, too.
Perhaps have a look at www.laptopvideo2go.com.
They might already have them.

You're not the only one with this problem - I found no solution in the discussion on the German forum :-(

when i run the Vista performance tool, i get the msg that the only problem is the VIA raid drivers. was anyone able to install Vista on a raid config? i don't care if the video card doesn't work, i just want to know if Vista was able to at least find the RAID array. are there VIA raid drivers for Vista?

The VIA array is no problem. Just go to www.via.com.tw and download the drivers. Copy the extracted folder to a usb drive or a cd and then during setup when Vista install asks you for the drivers, load them from the cd or a usb drive. Its as easy as that.

I recommend waiting for sometime though. At least till a work around for the graphics problem comes out.

You need to install Windows Vista RC2. The drivers come with it, you just need to install it.

I will probably only shift to Vista after one year or one year and a half after it's release, but just out of curiosity, as I own a M3438G myself, how do you guys think this system will stand in terms of lifespam? I mean, with all the changes that Vista will necessarily bring (DirectX 10 for instance), how will their components support this features in a medium term?
I'm specially worried about the 6800 Go compatibility with DirectX 10... I'm not worried about RAM, 2 GB should be more than enough for some time, the HDD too, I'm curious about the CPU, but expect it to become obsolete somehow soon, etc...

Just installed the latest Windows Vista Release without a problem.
But running Vista on a Amilo M3438G is a different history.
I have these results from the Windows Experience Index:

Processor: 3,6
Mem. RAM: 4,4
Graphic: 5,9
Game Graphic: 4,6
HDD: 4,0

but Vista is lagging most of the time.

im guessing its the bad NVIDIA drivers that is causing the lagging.

use this link to report your error to NVIDIA:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/vistaqualityassurance.html

they are risking a lawsuit by angry costumers.

ive tried to dowload the latest drivers from the NVIDIA page for my
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 but when i run the setup it says it could not find the hardware.

does anyone know what drivers i should use in vista for my NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800?

thanks
