Operating System not found // Empty priority list in BIOS

Postby S77 » Fri Nov 14, 2008 10:09 pm

Just bought a Si2636 and had for about three hours. Went through the Vista installation and partitioned the harddrive to let Ubuntu be on the other one. Installed Ubuntu successfully and went on installing other programs in Vista such Visual Studio 2008 etc. Restarted and then it would not start none of the OS. Went into BIOS and wanted to change the priority list so that SATA was first. It said "use + or - to change the priority list" - nothing happens. Assumed that pressing "1" when marked SATA would move this to top. Anxious about this I happen to press it (1) two fast times making both cd rom and SATA disappear! Now I cannot retrieve them to the list. I can see them in the system description in BIOS but not in the priority list! When starting it says "Operating system not found".. It also seems as the only way to make it work somehow is to use LAN boot but I have never experienced this. What shall I do? I am devastated!

Try a hardware reset:
remove power pack and main battery and press the power button for 15 seconds.
If this doesn't help remove the HDD, boot, wait for the error message, switch the notebook off, reinstall the HDD and try again.
