FS Amilo Pi 1505 Recovery Disk Problem

Postby sfahad_yunas » Sun Nov 23, 2008 6:24 pm

Ok before posting my problem, I would apologize if this question has already been posted on this forum. I have searched for threads that were similar to my problem but couldnt find exactly what I am looking for.

Now here's my problem:
I bought FS Pi 1505 two years back (so its obviously out of warranty) from Comet Store in UK. It runs Windows XP Home Edition SP2. My Notebook came with a Recovery DVD named Drivers and Utilities - CONSUMER NOTEBOOK 40. I was planning to restore my Notebook for the first time (after purchase). I followed the step by step procedure for restoring the notebook to original factory configuration using the manual provided 'Restoring Installed Software' with the Notebook. The manual says to insert the DVD named 'Drivers & Utility' into the ROM, restart your computer, press any key when asked and then follow the instructions. I did the same. I get a message on the screen saying -Loading Recovery Process- but after that I get an error message the recovery folder is missing and i should reboot with the recovery cd.

I contacted the Fujitsu Siemens technical support team and their response was:
"The disk you are using is the drivers and utilities disk not the recovery disk, the recovery disk would say on it "Fujitsu Siemens Product Recovery Windows XP". This is why you are not able to reinstall the operating system".

But as far as the booklet goes, it says that I should be able to restore the operating system with the following resources
Supplied with your computer are:
>Drivers and Utilities
>CoA (Certificate of Authenticity) Label

I have both, Drivers and Utilities Disk and CoA label, but I havent been provided with Fujitsu Siemens Product Recovery Windows XP disk.

I purchased another set of recovery Disk from Gennersales (UK). They sent me One DVD named ' Utilities & Drivers' and another one is named 'Fujitsu Siemens Windows XP Home Edition SP2'. I tried to use the recovery disk but again I was prompted that Recovery Folder is missing.I can do a fresh installation with the Recovery Disk but the new installation doesnt has all the softwares like PowerDVD for Fujitsu Siemens, Norton Antivirus for Fujitsu Siemens and Microsoft Works (as my system origininally came with those softwares, when I first bought it) Moreover, I want to simply restore the computer from the Disk rather than manually installing the operating system.
Is there any solution to this 'Recovery Folder Missing' problem.
Thanks

Most likely you will have a recovery partition on your HDD. With this you can create your own recovery DVDs. You should be able to access the recovery partition by repeatedly pressing F8 while the system boots. Then you should see a menu from which you can chose to create recovery media. Keep 3 DVD+R ready for the process.
With these DVDs you can recover the delivery status. Please save all changes you did to your system (backup your data and installers of software that didn't come with the notebook).

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I followed your instructions but couldnt find anything over there. I dont think there is any partition for recovery.
If anybody has Amilo Pi 1505 with Windows XP home edition, please tell me how many CD/DVDs came along with your system.

Hello I have the same computer.

It came with two discs in my case the Windows XP Recovery Disc and the Drivers and Utilities disc.

Now that I needed booting with the Drivers and Utilities disc I got the same error message, but I have a good guess why. When I freshly install my XP from the fujitsu recovery disc I always get a folder in the root called RECOVERY. My bad that I always delete it right after installation, so the Drivers and Utilities disc's boot programme cant reach it when it's needed.

What I am not sure of is that if the RECOVERY folder is created by the XP Recovery disc installer, or by the Drivers and Utilities Install process, when installing the drivers for the Amilo.

So my suggestion is: Try reinstalling your drivers and look for the RECOVERY folder in the root of your mail partition (you might need use "Express installation". If that does not work, it is almost sure that you must reinstall the system using the Recovery XP disc. But don't forget to leave the Recovery folder where it is, in order to be able to use Drivers and Utilities disc for certain recoveries later, where the XP installer is useless.

I hope I helped

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, I did not receive a second CD 'Windows XP recovery disk', when I first bought my laptop from Comet. I only came with 'Drivers and Utilities disk'. When I contacted the fujitsu Amilo Center, they told me that I can get those disks from a company named 'Service Source Europe'. Upon contacting the company, they asked for my laptop serial number (which is on the backside of my laptop), unfortunately due to usage, it was rubbed off.

No I am looking to some how locate my laptop's serial. I used the fujitsu siemens serial utility, but that only finds the serial number of the motherboard.

Hi,

I couldnt find the key presses to automate the recovery process from the hidden partition. So I booted from a windows 98 CD and went to FDISK.
I then made the Non-DOS (1st partition) active. Restarted the PC and it booted straight into the recovery process. Hurrah!!!

Presumably this alters the BOOT.INI file to boot from the hidden recovery partition which could probably be done within MSCONFIG -> BOOT.INI

@alan m:
Can you please post your boot.ini? Your solution might also solve some other problems we encountered with the recovery partition.
