Notebook cooling question

Postby shepsan » Sat Dec 06, 2008 7:22 pm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have the U.S version of the Amilo 1526, the Everex StepNote XT5000T. It has two hard drives and will have an upgraded processor next week.

I have tried to reduce the heat generated by the components by sitting the notebook on a metal cooler that has two small fans. Even so, my notebook gets quite hot after a short period of usage.

Warranty aside, will drilling holes in the plastic case directly below the hard drives and the processor allow cool room air to enter the case from some of the holes and at the same time provide an outlet for the hot air inside the case to escape through the other holes?

I guess that randomly drilling holes will not impove something.
You should clean the grill of your fan and the fan itself if they are dusty. Additionally applying new heat conductive paste when changing the CPU should help too. Don't forget to take care about the different height between CPU and GPU!
Maybe you can even check if you find a better coolerpad. You should watch out for one that has at least one fan directly situated under a grill of your notebook.

Which temperature are too high? The CPU and GPU temperatures should drop after renewing the heat conductive paste and depending on the model of your HDDs you could replace them with others that stand more heat.
