L7320GW Keyboard

Postby dbb » Mon Dec 15, 2008 11:40 am

I accidentally knocked a soft drink over my wife's laptop/keyboard (L7320).

The keyboard has stopped functioning correctly, some keys work, some dont.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the keyboard on this model ?, and if there's any way to clean the keyboard, or do i need to replace it?

A USB keyboard works most of the time, but occasionally that doesn't work as expected either.

First thing to do is to remove the plastic cover. This is easy on most laptops but I have not been able to do it so if you discover the secret please let me know !
Having done that you will remove screw that holds keyboard and CAREFULLY turn back keyboard from top as there is a fragile wire at bottom that plugs into motherboard. You should be able to clean it but you have to be SURE that ALL the moisture is removed so I would also remove ALL bottom covers memory (avoid static by holding at sides only), battery (but I hope this is already removed), hard drive etc and leave it in a warm (but obviously not too hot) dry place for a couple of days.

I discovered how to remove the keyboard.

Remove the battery, you will see three screws under it, remove these.

Place laptop back on it's feet, and open the top as wide as it will go, (so it's almost flat), then gently prise the black trim (surrounding the power button) upwards. It may require a gentle tug, i start at the right hand side next to the power button, and the plastic comes away making a clicking noise.

Once the trim is removed, the keyboard is not held in place by anything else, it is easily lifted up. But be careful about removing the connecting cable, it is easily damaged.

In my case the USB keyboard doesnt work sometimes, but if i remove the normal keyboard, all is fine, it's obvious that theres some kind of short/connection problem inside the laptop keyboard, stopping the USB one working.

The only problem i have is that there is no Function key (FN / F2 needed to turn on wireless) , is there any way to simulate the FN key ?.

I was told by someone to try WASHING the keyboard, sounds stupid at first, but providing it's dried out correctly i cant see it making things any worse.
