Error messages involving Regkey and Winio

Postby horfieldman » Mon Sep 11, 2006 10:57 pm

I have recently bought an amilo L7300. The machine came preloaded with Win xp Home, but little else. As soon as I started to use it I began to encounter two problems:

1/ When I boot the laptop up I keep getting the following two error messages
Error: Could not set RegKey value. Please reinstall this program
Error: Driver WINIO could not be loaded. Please reinstall this program

2/ I have an intermittent problem with screen freezing, usually often on the User selection screen. Alt-Ctrl-Del does not work and I have to turn the machine off and on to reboot

Please could you advise what I need to do..
Many thanks

I'd recommend to reinstall Windows. The error messages are weird and lockups may be related to this or a driver problem.

You should also run memtest86, so we can be sure that your RAM is ok.

Thanks. As you suggested I reinstalled windows xp which got rid of the RegKey error message and the screen freezing. Still got the winio.dll error messages. As winio.dll is part of Power Manager I decided to reinstall this. When I install Power Manager (off the fujitsu utilities disk) on one of my user logons the error message still pops up when I change user to my other logon. When I reinstall power manager on the second user user logon the error message then appears on the first user's logon. I feel i'm missing something obvious, but can't work out what it is!

I think this winio.dll/RegKey errors are both caused by Power Manager. I know that there are problems with non-administrator users (on some models).
Try to assign administrator rights to these users, so we'll see whether that's the problem or not.
