Definitive guide to installing XP on Pi1505 or Similar

Postby Paul2301 » Tue Jan 13, 2009 2:18 am

Hello all, I hope this helps because there seems to be so many contradictions on this forum regarding XP installations on pre installed Vista Machines.

For simplicity, I am writing about Amilo Pi 1505 though I have successfully installed on other models with the same method:

You will need the following.

USB Floppy Drive.
Download to C Drive, YOUR Models SATA driver file from Fujitsu Siemens Support. In this case I have used this file: http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/Download/ShowDescription.asp?SoftwareGUID=5271EEBA-266F-45A8-A459-FDEBEBCDA37F&OSID=DD13C337-8EFF-4CFB-A589-72971D7BCBCE&Status=True&Component=Intel%2082801GMU%20SATA%20AHCI%20Controller
A formatted Floppy Disk.
A Folder on your C Drive called "Intel"

I assume now you have all that is required.

Step 1. On Vista Machines, Click Start and then in the search box type run. The run Command will dispaly as a search result. Click on it to open. On XP Machines just go Start> Run.

Step 2. Assumes you have created a folder on your C drive called Intel and that you have downloaded the correct SATA installation from Fujitsu Downloads. We need to extract the drivers from the installation. To do this copy the following code to the Run Command
Code: Select all
c:\iata55_enu.exe -a -a -p c:\Intel

Please note: If your driver download is called something else then delete "iata55_enu.exe and type exactly what your driver name is.

Enter when done and the process will begin the extration to the Intel folder on your C drive.

Step 3. All the files you now need for you floppy are stored in C:/Intel/Drivers. These need to be copied to your floppy disk.
You Now have the Driver Fujitsu Siemens would use.

Step 4. Plug in the USB Floppy to the laptop but do not insert the floppy you have just made. Put your XP disk in and boot from CD. After "Windows is inspecting your machine" You will see at the bottom of the XP installation Screen, "Press F6 to load....... When you see it Press F6, if you miss it...just restart the process.

Step 5. Here is where everyone seems to go wrong. All Intel Floppy Sata installers do not support Mobile systems so the drivers will never be found on this F6flpy32 disk. Windows Installer will Prompt you to load Raid/Sata drivers. Place your floppy into the drive and then press S.
The floppy contents will be read and one of those drivers will be Mobile Device. Select that one using the arrow and enter keys.

Thats it....easy....continue the installation and enjoy!

I have the drivers extracted for the Pi1505 model. If you need them please just contact me and I will mail them to you.

Here is a very good description of the whole process including other ways than the one with the floppy:

...and a link on how to get the right drivers for your model:
