Postby loffe2s » Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:04 pm

Okej so i got this computer from my brother after we bought a new one
but the problem with it is that the harddrive is dead?

i meen i think its broken, atleast boot sectors and so on...

what ive tried is:
installing vista - stuck at install
installing xp - stuck at format 0%
Hirens boot cd programs - recovery, boot sector clean/repair, alot of other programs, format etc

so what now? i think the drive is totally busted, ive tried mbr, boot sector everything i can think of repairing

so i was thinking of putting in a new HD?

is there a guide or dissembly pdf or something i can check out

please help :/

Maybe your Sata-HDD was just not detected correctly because of missing drivers. Did you read this?:
https://www.amilo-forum.com/topic,26,-Installation-of-Windows-XP-Home-Pro-PE-FAQs.html

If this doesn't work you might want to try a Linux-Live-CD to verify that it's really the HDD that causes the problems.
If this is not the case, disassembling the notebook is not necessary to exchange the HDD. Just open the big service door on the underside of the notebook and look for a rectangular silver box. This contains the HDD.

Hello. To be honest, you have to try Linux live cd. Any linux distribution. If it will not start, you really have a problem:), but its not the end.
You have to try to pull out that hdd (its not that hard, when you will try harder  ). Its important to clean its mbr, etc when he is in slave mode in another PC. Maybe master format will help, but you have to try.
