Amilo li 1718 cooling problem

Postby simmen » Wed Feb 04, 2009 10:29 am

Hello,
my girlfriend have Amilo 1718. Before 5 mounts the laptop have problems with the motherboard and the HDD. They were replaced in the warranty service. After that I noticed the notebook become hotter and hotter. Now I thing it's very hot in front, under the touchpad. The cooling fan never reduce the rmp. Everest show me for the CPU - 53 C, and for HDD 43 C. This is when there is nothing running. When I start something the CPU goes more than 65 C. Is this normal for this notebook?
I use 2 other notebooks, one Packard Bell and one HP, and none of them is so hot. HP is with AMD.

Maybe the service made some mistake while applying the thermal paste. This might be the reason why the notebook gets hotter now.
But the temperatures are far from being critical. Nothing to worry about.

i have the exact same laptop and mine was hot enough to cook an egg on, now its fine. although im not sure what i did to recitify it. keeping your laptop clean is something very important especially around the fan. applying thermal paste is another (when in the wrong places). recently i have cleaned my registry which has greatly affected my computer. by managing startup components and services it has run much smooter and more importantly, cooler.

Hi,

After 5 minutes working on some documents...

The heat of my CPU is about a 70° !!!
The average heat of my 2x 512 MB RAM is also a 70° !!!

The usage is around 0% - 2%

A maximum of 4 active processes are running simultanuously

What is going on here?

Would it help if I bought 2 new sodimms of 1GB?
Or is it a motherboard problem?

@danezu:
There are three basic steps to cool down a notebook:

1. Clean the fan and its grill. Especially when it'sd older there might be some dust in the cooling.

2. Renew the heat paste. The heat paste gets harder with time and its conductivity decreases. This step requires some skills in dealing with hardware. Please see this thread:

It's about a CPU change but if you skip the CPU replacement itself it's pretty much the same.

3. Get a cooler pad. This is an external device with (or without) fans that you put under your notebook. Depending on the design it can decrease the temperatures for about 10°C.
