Printing from a laptop

Postby mazza15 » Fri Feb 06, 2009 8:09 am

Please can somebody talk me through the steps so I can print from my laptop.

The printer is connected to my PC (which runs windows XP), which is connected to the wireless router and the laptop (which runs VISTA)can see the router.

I have named my PC and made the printer available to share but it does not work.

What do I do next to make this work?

Thanks in advance.

There are a lot of tutorials out there. Did you browse to your desktop computer shares and doubleclick the printer?

Maybe this helps:

ok when I select my printer from my pc and click on properties I can see that I have selected to share it.

When I search on the laptop for printers that are wireless etc it can not find it

Is this because the PC uses XP and laptop uses vista - is there something I need to download like a driver?

There is no driver.
Both computers have the same workgroup name?

On vista you go to control panel, then select printers, turn the printer on and select wireles printer, and your computer will scan for it. If it finds the printer, you must then select the model of the printer so windows can search for the necessary driver. if no driver is found you will be asked if you have a disk or if you would like to use windows update to find the driver.

As for XP, im not to sure, although there should be plenty of tutorials out there.
