Linux on Amilo Xa 2529

Postby pdleyva » Wed Feb 11, 2009 5:15 pm

Hi everybody,

I have a FSC Amilo Xa 2529. I tried to install Ubuntu 8.10 but it hasn't been possible. I haven't tried other distributions. Have somebody installed succesfully Linux on this model? I have heard about some problems concerning WLAN, DVD, WebCam and CardReader. Is there any distribution capable to fix these bugs?

Thanks in advance.

It's hard work to get Linux working on the Xa 2529. In the german forum some people managed to install openSuse 11.1 but this has also been difficult.
It turned out to be necessary to install it via network, use the kernel parameters brokenmodules=pata_amd,amd74xx and to upgrade the kernel to 2.6.28 because the DVD drive isn't supported by earlier versions. Maybe an installation from a USB-stick would work too.

Up to now no distribution comes with kernel 2.6.28, so you will have to compile it on your own. I expect Sidux to have 2.6.28 first. It's unlikely but maybe Fedora is faster depending on the release date of Debian Lenny.
