System Monitoring Software

Postby ken,dearden » Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:28 am

Does anyone know of any system monitoring software for the Amilo notebook?

I have loaded speedfan but it fails to detect any fan speed or any voltages. It seems to detect two temperatures but I have not seen these vary. so I am wondering just how reliable the information is. Could Speedfan's ability to detect system variables be due to incorrect bios settings?

Thanks.

The built-in sensors are exclusively handled by the BIOS. If this doesn't forward the data to the OS no software will be able to display any reasonable values. The BIOS of consumer-notebooks is very limited so you will not be able to configure anything dealing with sensors or the fan there.

You may want to try another tool like Everest but I think the result will be the same like with Speedfan.
Most likely the two sensors you see are for CPU and HDD. If you put heavy load on the processor (e.g. computing the factorial of a big number) you should see a significant rise of the temperature within a few seconds. If you don't you shouldn't care about these values.

I can recommend NHC as long as you have a Centrino Notebook (PentiumM Banias/Dothan) with Windows XP.
