Boot problems V2020, replacement drive advice needed

Postby smee » Sat Feb 21, 2009 5:46 pm

Hello

I am experiencing problems with my laptop Hard-Drive, the drive is recognised only sometimes when booting up.
The software diagnostics for ATA drives was run (ver7), the software tells me that the Power Cable is not properly attached to the HHD, but I removed the drive and reconnected it with the same results on the diagnostic software.
As the laptop is running, could there be a problem with the drive???

I am thinking of swapping my drive for a slightly larger one if the drive is dying, but all I know is that I need a 2.5" drive.
The drive I have installed is a Samsung MP0603H, it is an ultra ATA-100 drive.

I am confused as what to buy as a replacement. I would not be buying anything larger than 100GB.
Do I need ATA-100 interface, I see there are other ATA interfaces on the market which ones are compatible with my laptop?
Is there anything else I need to know about buying a compatible replacement

I thank you for your help in advance
Smee

All you have to take care of is that your new drive has a P-ATA interface (IDE), has the 2.5" format and isn't bigger than 120GB. Every drive that matches these criteria will fit.

I think you won't find any drives with less than UDMA100 as long as it spins with 5400rpm. Slower drives are extremely rare nowadays.

Thank you for your quick reply

I can now feel sure that I can buy a compatible device.

Again I will be sticking with Fujitsu Siemens when I get around to replacing my laptop :D
