Li1718 Ram 1x2GB or 2x1GB

Postby manch » Sat Mar 07, 2009 2:28 pm

Hi boys sorry for my English. Before 3-4 days i upgrade my li1718 witch original is with 1 GB (2x512Mb) to 1x2GB but i did not feel any difference. My question is - is it better to change it with 2x1GB or it will not have any real difference? dual working or something?? thanks in advance

You won't notice any difference with more RAM unless your OS had to swap due to insufficient RAM before the upgrade. Normally 1GB is more than enough. So it's not untypical that you can't see any difference.

In general it's better to have two RAM-modules of the same size than to have one big module. But the difference is absolutely insignificant in most situations. You won't notice any difference if you change your module for two smaller ones.

You can fill the empty slot with one of the modules u removed if

    1. The speed is the same(FSB)
    2. Your note book supports the amount of memory (2gb+)

2x1gb is only faster when your notebook supports dual channel memory. Otherwise it doesn't make a difference..

Cheers

That's really strange that your notebook doesn't recognises it.I know my notebook is different(PA2548) but I now run with an 2gb ddr 800 module + an 1gb ddr 667 module, which works fine, only on 333mhz and Dual Channel is disabled because the're not the same size. the 333mhz is declared bij the memory controller on the cpu which automaticly chooses the slowest speed. Your notebook might not support more then 2gb's, then that's the reason it's not recognised. U can mail Fujitsu Siemens support with that question...
