nVidia / ATI driver installation - drivers not compatible

Postby Borkar » Sun Mar 26, 2006 1:25 pm

Official drivers for your notebooks can be downloaded here
http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com

But sometimes it is important to switch/update drivers. You might receive the following error message (analogously):

Problem:
"Setup could not find a driver that is compatible to the given hardware. The installation will be aborted."

Reason:
Only OEM manufacturers (here Fujitsu Siemens Computers) support mobile nVidia/ATI graphic cards. Drivers that can be downloaded from www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com can usually not be installed.

Solution:
You have to modify the driver slightly.
-> for nVidia, see here (It is recommended that you use the inf file of the original FSC graphics driver)
-> for ATI, see here
If you don't want to do this on your own, you can also download modified drivers from the internet. Links to the important sites can be found here
