Upgrade for Li1705

Postby LdV » Tue Mar 31, 2009 11:30 am

I have an Li1705 with Intel Celeron M530 processor, with 1 gig Ram running Windows Vista. Can I upgrade this to 2 gig or more. I have asked the Fujitsu Siemens South African support desk and they advise "NO". I can't believe that any Store would sell a laptop that is not upgradable. Can anyone advise me on whether this can be done, I would grately appreciate any advise or comments

Hi

You have to find out which mainboard is installed and the find out which memory speeds are supported.
I did this with Everest.

Mayby u can get someusefull info from my topic.. FSC said I couldn't upgrade too.
topic,2355,-Upgrading-ram-to-4GB-on-Amilo-pa-2548.html

I just ordered an 2 gb module and tried it out, which works perfectly...

Thanx for reply - I have removed Vista and loaded my copy of Windows XP prof. Can u believe now FSC do not support drivers for XP. I have tried downloaded the XP desk update that supposed to have the XP drivers availabel, but it does not load anything. Any idea where I can download free drivers for this - just require audio, graphics, Lan and WLAN. Thanx

Hi

I don't think that there are any drivers for windows xp for your notebook, just because XP is unsupported by FSC.
You can try to mail FSC support and ask for xp drivers, but since they're not on their site I don't think they exist.

I don't know if every notebook brand has this problem but when I buy a new notebook I will definetly check if the're are drivers available for every operating system. And after that check the release dates of the drivers, because FSC drivers are very old and are never being updated.

The only option for u is to run vista on your notebook. But with 1Gb ram I would have definatly tried a downgrade, like u did.
The best for u is to, if possible, add some ram. Your notebook will then definetly become faster, and more capable of running vista which in my opinion needs 2gb MINIMAL!!! This because your IGP (integrated graphics processor) also uses your system memory. You can maybe force FSC to make drivers for xp, because 1gb just isn't enough for Vista. But I doubt if they will.

Good luck with this.

The user tonyem posted a driver package for XP in the german amilo-forum:
https://www.amilo-forum.de/topic,15413,-Vollstaendiges-XP-Treiberpaket-fuer-Amilo-Li-1705-da.html

FSC will not release any drivers for XP.

The Chipset of the Li 1705 supports at least 2GB of RAM. I'm not sure if the BIOS does but I'm optimistic.
Depending on your configuration you either need one additional 1GB module if you already have a 1GB module installed or you need two 1GB modules to replace the two existing 512MB modules.
A tool like Everest will tell you how many modules are in your notebook.

You need modules of the type:
SO-DIMM DDR2 PC2-4200 or PC2-5300
