I'm thinking of buying this model

* Processor speed: 1.6 GHz
* Processor: Intel Centrino Duo
* Screen size: 15.4 inches
* Storage (hard drive): 40 GB
* Memory (RAM): 1024 MB
* Graphics: 128MBIntel 950

and I wondered if anyone who had it already could comment on the fan noise during use?

I have an old Sony Vaio whose fan rarely switches off and it drives me nuts. I would love to think that any new laptop I buy would have a mostly inactive and almost silent fan.

Also, any comments on battery life? Officially, the six cell battery is claimed to last 4 hours but one of the reviews I've read says it's nearer 2 hours.

hello i'm new here :)
i have pi 1505
it's not noisy laptop, fan turns on rarely, and there's "silence button" to switch it off and partialize resources when u don't need maximum power.
about battery for sure it's not 4 hours
just browsing internet with wireless it lasts 2 hours and a half
i guess that using more programs it can be less

That's good to know.

How about when you watch a DVD? Does the fan switch on then?

2.5 hours battery is okay, I guess. My Sony doesn't last 5 minutes these days!

Okay. Thanks for that. Silent mode sounds useful.

Well, mine is running quite hot, actually. I find hot palmrest a bigger problem than a loud fan. CPU sometimes reaches 70 C, and the palmrest is rather uncomfortable. I'm looking for a fan utility now :)
