Pa1538 processor support

Postby Fumo » Wed Apr 08, 2009 7:17 pm

Hi!

I am considering a processor upgrade on my laptop Amilo Pa1538. My problem is that i do not know with which processor my laptop is compatible with.

It comes with Turion x2 TL-50 (Taylor (90nm, Memory controller DDR2-667MHz...).
Do I have to use a Trinidad processor (also 90nm) and can I use Tirnidad TL-64 (documentation only says processors up to TL-60) or can I also use Tyler (65nm, Memory controller DDR2-800MHz...) family of processors (if so, up to what frequencies)?

One of the BIOS updates mentioned that it adds support for Athlon (sometimes named Turion 64 X2 TK-53) which is Tyler so I guess there is a possibility that Tyler processors will work.

Thanks

Sorry if my writing is a bit confusing.

P.S. A bit off topic. If I get Tyler processor do I profit from using DDR2-800 MHz or will mobo only be able to work with it on 667 MHz?

It would really help if those of you who have TL -56 and higher versions on your PA1538, would check what core it has with this tool and let me know.

Many thanks.

I'm pretty sure that all Tylers will work. What you find in the datasheets is not the limit of what the notebook supports but what the market offered when the notebook was released.

Thanks.
I looked around a bit and the chipset supports this processors, I even saw a new laptop with Tyler TL-60 being sold (hope it wasn't a mistake) so the BIOS should be ready too. I'm going for the Tyler TL-64.
I'll post the result.

I have a 90nm trinidad tl-60 in my pa1538. I am also considering an upgrade to a tl-64 in the future, let me know if it works for you...

It works. Amilo pa 1538 supports Tyler processors and new ram runs at 800MHz. I upgraded to TL-60 with G2 stepping (TMDTL60HAX5DM).
Hope somebody will find this helpfull.
