[Xi 2528] & Windows 7  Topic is solved

Postby Carlos » Mon Apr 27, 2009 10:52 pm

Hi guys,
Got mi 2528 since last august, and had not too much bad experiences with it, usual ones, (short batteries time, ocassional lags & one or two dark screens, same as the rest of the 2528 users under the infamous Vista)
Last weekend decided to upgrade to the new Seven, and appart from some minor incompatibilities solved, I can assure it works fine.

Maybe a little "upgrading list" can help others:
On older Amilos under xp, no other way than recompile the XP CD with nLite to add SATA drivers, a real pain, but this new W7 seems to be a little less dumber than his little brothers...
- Even if the most difficult part was to make it recognize SATA drives, (because you can't switch the W7 & Amilo DVD on the fly, it don't work), finally copied the drivers to an USB stick, (tried first original Intel_Matrix_Storage_Driver_(SATA)_8.2.0.1001.zip and No way, it refused to install for some obscure compatibility issue, so tried one of JMicron ones,(JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.37WHQL.zip & JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.38WHQL.zip) % succeded with the 17.38
Just boot from burned Windows 7 dvd (you can still download the Windows 7 build 7077x86 from the Microsoft site or somewere out trere else & ask Billy Gates for the FREE activation license for 1 year, till april/2010)
- When it asks for drive where to install (it won't recognize them on the fly, but it's smart enough to allow you to select a BROWSE button) on which you can point to one of the 3 usb ports on the Amilo... and just point to one of the JMicron drivers that's all...
- Last, once the W7 finishes it's job, switch out DVD & insert AMILO DRIVERS DVD, let it do the job, automatically detect all hardware, & some minor manual configuration, that's all...
Hope it helps

By the way, I updated the bios with the FJS site's one & things really fired up, maybe it's an illusion, but I feel the machine a bit quicker (can't be sure but about 20% faster than it was under vista)
hope it helps others.

Well, guess there will be flying Xi2528's everywhere. Mine is soon through the window to.

I have managed to install W7 x64 with help JMicron drivers on a USB stick. Have tried with these drivers: ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/XP_V ... 1_WHQL.zip

The installation is all good, but when I restart there is no boot. Only a blinking cursor. Currently I am trying with the older JMicron drivers supplied on the official support page. Should not make a difference, but one has to try everything.

Not sure I understand the part about the AMILO DRIVERS DVD. Have not found such a disc. What does it do ? Do I need to have it ? Guess I have to go down the basement and find the box and see if there is such a disc.

Wow, I can hardly belive it. I think it works :D

Used the fujitsu supported drivers, file name is FTS_RAIDcontrollerJMB36X_1172003_1015109.ZIP

W7 Ultimate x64 works like a charm now, wheeha. Thought I was going to spend the whole weekend fighting W7 vs Amilo.

buzznutsgrande, I downloaded the raid drivers, unzipped them on a usb stick. When you get to the disc part in the installation you have a possibility to supply own driver. Insert the USB stick and select browse, find the drivers catalog and choose ok. I removed the first partion (Vista rescue?) so I could have W7 all over the disc. Ghosted every partion to the second drive first, just in case ...

Then it just, works :)

GL to you

You dont even get to see the HDD's ? Is your USB stick available when/if you get to the browse part ?
Or is the installation not even starting ?

Works for me using a USB flash drive.

I found the correct drivers here:
ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/XP_Vista_Win7/

I downloaded this particular file:
JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.47WHQL_WIN7.zip

Unzipped it all onto a USB flash drive, then when W7 installation asked where to browse to, I browsed to this directory on the USB stick:
JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.47WHQL_WIN7\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32

I don't know if all of this information will apply to every Xi2528 model but it works for me, and I hope it works for you too.

I've also made the zip file available here, for your convenience:
http://curtjackson.co.uk/files/JMB36X_W ... L_WIN7.zip

Cheerio.

I did get forward in installing thanks to curtj´s tutorial. This time I see about 5 partitions made from the two hard drives (what can I do with these to get just one partition per hard drive? Just delete the excess ones?). I formatted them all and selected the one I wanted to install WIN7 to. It installs normally until the first boot. In the first boot windows encounters a problem:

File: \Windows\system32\DRIVERS\jraid.sys
Status: 0xc0000359
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system system driver is missing, or corrupt.

I have tried again and again but it´s always the same problem.
And when in the installation process I choose to browse my own drive in order to install the drivers curtj mentioned, I get four different options when I open the \R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32 - directory from my USB-drive:

JMicron JMB36X Controller (C:\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32\jraid_i.inf)
JMicron JMB36X Controller (C:\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32\jraid_i.inf)
JMicron JMB36X Controller (C:\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32\jraid_i.inf) (x64)
JMicron JMB36X Controller (C:\R1.17.47.14\Driver\x32\jraid_i.inf) (x64)

*[x] Hide drivers that are not compatible with hardware on this computer*

Which one am I supposed to choose?
Once I have chosen one of those, the computer notifies:
"To continue installation, use the Load Driver option to install 32-bit abd signed 64-bit drovers. Installing an unsigned 64-bit device driver is not supported and might result in an unusable Windows installation."
Despite this, all the partitions show up, so I guess it still works..?

And in the beginning of the installation, will I choose to install x64 or x86?
