Stripy display crash

Postby rtjones71 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 8:50 pm

Hi

From time to time, my Amilo's display will "crash" showing static multi-coloured stripes (or sometimes a completely blank, white screen.)

The only solution when this happens is to switch off the computer by holding down the power button.

What does this mean?!?!! :?

Hello,
I tot I am the only one having this stripy problem. I did checked with fujitsu website and surprisingly fujitsu told that it is graphic card problem and/or motherboard problem. We have two option to solve this problem.
1. update BIOS. But this is for preventive measure, but once you experienced this stripy, fujitsu give no warranty on remedy the problem.
2. Change your motherboard or graphic card. If you are still under warranty program then you are lucky. My amilo is underwater unit without the serial number. Nothing much I can do about it.

But one thing I dont understand is, when it refer to graphic card, is it referring to ATI graphic card or built in graphic card.

Anyhow, Fujitsu only highlighted a few model of Amilo. Even though mine was not on the list, unfortunately, this stripy and black white screen is happened without any warning.

Please anybody help us...

This depends on your notebook model. Most likely it refers to a dedicated graphics card since only these tend to overheat.

If the stripes appear from the very beginning after you started your notebook, there is no other way but exchanging the graphics card to resolve this. If you can still work some minutes without problems you should immediately take countermeasures against overheating by cleaning the fan and grill, renewing the thermal paste and maybe consider to purchase a cooler pad.

Hi Hikaru,
Thank you for your advice. I did made an assumption to the problem. It got something to do with heat. In fact,my laptop base spike, if we can call that, already missing and gone. Then this lead to non uniformity of air flow from bottom of laptop to behind.
I will carry out the cleaning very soon, and if possible to get one cooling pad.
As for your info, I can use the Amilo up to few hours infact overnight before it gone stripy and hanged.
I believe this was your second solution and advice to me since me joined the club.

Thanks again.

Note: can you arrange to get one new battery for my Amilo Pi 2530?

Since I have no official connection to FTS I can't arrange something for you.
But there is a battery available at ipc-computer which you can buy on your own:

Depending on how long you own your notebook there might also be a chance to exchange the battery via the guaranty. I'm not absolutely sure but as far as I know for batteries this only applies to the first 6 months.
