Xi2528 webcam

Hi!

It seems that there is still no 100% working driver for ALi webcam under Linux, or did anyone made it work "not so bad" (I mean, better than me, as I get an B&W almost black reversed picture...)

Thank you!

Which driver do you use? gspca? Which version / kernel version?

Hi.

I'm currently running kernel 2.6.29.1-desktop-4mnb (Mandriva 2009.1 made), and I'm using the gspca_m5602 driver.

Thank you for your help.

lsusb shows this device?
Code: Select all
Bus 007 Device 005: ID 0402:5602 ALi Corp. Video Camera Controller

It is not listed in this table: http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html

According to http://www.linuxlaptopwiki.net/wiki/ALi_Corp_M5602 a driver is in development - I suppose this development driver is the gspca_m5602, which you tested? Did you try the latest development snapshot?

I found a tutorial for the "m5602" driver: http://atlas.hasselbalch.com/znote6625wd/ (for Ubuntu, but should work on every recent GNU/Linux platform, given the header files are installed)

Thanks for your answer. I went on the web pages that you listed in your post, and it seems that the driver provided by Mandriva is in fact the latest up to date... Therefore, I think I'll have to wait until the driver comes mature, hooping it won't take too long (well I don't intend to change my laptop by now, but I'd like to use as many of its capabilities as possible in an acceptable delay...
