Amilo Li 1818 & Virtualisation support

Postby KitamuraComputers » Tue May 19, 2009 5:48 pm

Does anyone know if the motherboard on the Li 1818 supports Virtualisation? Being a 945 chipset, I'm not sure if it is. I was thinking of upgrading my 1.73 C2D E5300 with one a few steps up that supports Virtualisation, so I can upgrade to the final release of Windows 7 with Virtual XP mode, but the lack of service manuals or literature is stopping me finding out. My desktop P45 machine does, but I'd like to use the feature on my laptop too.

I'm not sure if the mainboard of the Li 1818 supports virtualisation. The chipset itself does, like the vmx flag shows that I can see on my Si 1520 which has a 945 chipset too:
Code: Select all
hikaru@debianT5600: cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'vmx'
flags      : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good pni monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr lahf_lm
flags      : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good pni monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr lahf_lm

So I would be optimistic that it's the same for the Li 1818.

Thanks for that, Hikaru. You're a star. I'll try it anyway, and re-run Intel ProcID. I must remeber to tick "notify of replies" from now on, I missed your reply!

Please report back if the Li 1818 actually supports virtualisation since my output can only be considered to be a positive hint!

I will. I'll be looking for a suitable CPU in the next few weeks, so I'll keep you posted if it works.

Is your chipset the 945GM? Mine has GMA950 graphics.

It's the same here: GMA 950 on 945GM

I'm unsure of something myself so I might as well ask you, Hikaru, seeing as you've got the same setup as me. What do you think the maximum C2D is that I can put in my 1818, with Vitualisation from my E5300?

It's a shame it won't suppoort C2Q chips. I need to read Intel docs!

According to the datasheet the T7200 is the maximum but I think the T7600 should work too.
