Downgrading to XP on an Amilo 1510...

Postby Grub » Fri May 22, 2009 8:19 pm

Hello, just found this site, it looks very useful, but I haven't quite found what I'm looking for...

I've had an AMilo 1510 for about 18 monthes now and it came installed with Vista Home Premium. I liked it at first but as I use my laptop more and more it slows down, and even after moving all sorts off it and removing programs, I'm just fed up with Vista comepletely.

I've got hold of a copy of Windows XP SP3 but when trying to install it, I'm having troubles...

I pop the disk in, chose where to install partitions formatting etc...then it goes into the main installing screen. That all goes fine until it reaches the stage installing devices (or somehting similar, can't quite remember, but definitely devices!) at which point about halfway through it goes completely mental, the display gets messed up and the whole thing crashes out. There's no blue screen of death or anything like that, it just goes mental, when I use the touch pad little fragments of display appear and zoom around the screen. It's kinda hard to describe! At first I thought it's just as it configures so I left for a while, eventually left it overnight but in the morning still no luck.

Tried restarting it and trying again but the same thing happens and I end up having to put in my Recovery Disk and go back to Vista. Bummer.

So...any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!!

I'm not sure if this helps, but I once had similar problems with a Toshiba notebook. The problem was, that the installer hung up at 34 minutes (what a great progress indicator :? ) while trying to detect my USB devices. I unplugged the USB mouse and the next installation went fine.
