Leaving out thin tin hdd-cover in V1000?

Postby michap » Mon Jun 15, 2009 1:13 pm

Hi all!

I'm new on this forum, so I hope I get this right..

I'm installing a new harddrive in an Amilo Pro V1000, the label side of the harddrive is covered by a thin tin cover. However, the harddrive has a small hole labeled "Do not cover this breather hole" wich would be covered if I put the tin cover on. The old drive has an identical hole and text (I do not know if it's the original drive). I'm considering not attaching the cover as it seems not to be essential. Any thoughts on this?
Both the old and the new drive are Seagates.

The porpose of this hole is to compensate differences in air pressure. So if you don't run your notebook in airplanes or submarines it doesn't matter if the hole is covered.

Thanks a lot for a fast answer!
Since I'm giving the computer to my mum at least the submarine-thingie seems to be less of a problem. I'll leave the tin-thing in. :-)
