DVD/CD drive not detected - plea for help!

Postby Frustrated Luddite » Mon Jun 22, 2009 4:14 pm

Hi everyone,

I've found this forum after hours and days of searching google for a solution to my problem, and am hoping someone here can help.

I've had my Amilo PI 1505 for around a year now.

In the last two weeks, I've noticed a major problem.

The laptop itself operates fine (Vista).

I hear my dvd/cd drive whirring up as normal as i boot the laptop.

But!

It does not appear in device manager, or in Explorer.

It has occasionally made a brief appearance, but if i begin to get excited at this prospect, as soon as i open the cd drive to put in a disc (either blank or containing data), the drive will vanish again.

I have seen a number of solutions online, mainly revolving around the deletion of upper and lower filters in a specific part of the registry.

I found these filters (although only the upper filters have ever been there), done as instructed, but still no drive.

I can supply more information as required, and sorry for my vagueness in this post. I am nowhere near as experienced as you guys.

Would it be worth my opening the laptop to see if it is simply a matter of a dodgy connection? If so, is there an online guide or information for doing this?

Alternatively, does anyone have any alternative solutions?

(I've come within inches of hurling it through the window, running outside, picking it up, running back indoors, and hurling it through again, but i'm trying to avoid the temptation of doing that, strong as it is!!!)

ANY help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Mick.

I think it is.

You can look for descriptions to replace the dvd drive - it's very similar for most laptops. Often you only have to remove one screw.

Dave,

Apologies for hijacking this thread, but I have an identical problem with my Amilo Pi 1505. I also have done the "Registry" thing to no avail. Did you solve the problem?

Any help would be appreciated.
