i have a 16 month old amilo, with a boot up fault

gone worst within the last few days, when on switch is pressed laptop starts to boot up.

caps lock and num lock goes on
screen remains blank and black
caps lock does not go on or off so dont think is a display problem

any other questions that could help identify problem welcome!!

today is has booted up after 20 trys of pressing on button!!

Check your memory, try taking one stick out (if you have two), see if the problem clears, if not, swap sticks and try again. Those two lights staying on are indicating one of the following:

1. RAM

2. CPU

3. Motherboard

When the POST is OK, all the lights should flash on then off together, as the keyboard check runs and passes.

If your RAM is not the issue, we'll move on. What CPU have you got? If it's a dual core I have a Pentium Dual Core I use for testing modern Amilos with, you can borrow it :) If yours isn't an AMD, of course ;)

Hint: Don't keep trying to power on endlessly, you'll stress the power management circuitry, plus your hard drive's motor and starter chip.

Leave 20 seconds before each attempt.
