AMiloD1845 WLAN

Postby pahsmolenski » Fri Aug 07, 2009 9:52 am

Hi.

I've been given an Amilo D1845, minus harddrive. I've stuck a new drive in and installed XP pro, updated the bios and downloaded and installed all the drivers from FS website. I cannot get the WLAN to work. The button does not light up, except when you initially boot the laptop. I have the Gemtek driver but there are no installation instructions and running the PRISMSVR.exe does nothing.
Is there something in the bios settings I need to set. As far as I understand the wirless hardware is built into the laptop (according to the user manual).
Or does this driver have to be run from DOS?

Any help/suggestions, many thanks

Update!

Under 'Device Manager I found a listing called 'Other' it has a yellow question mark '?' over it. Below it listed two item both with Yellow '?' on them. One is called a 'Network Controller'.
The driver was not installed so I clicked on 'update driver and pointed it to the unzipped 'FTS_GemtekWL850FJxConexant_21250_1001278' directory where the 'PRISMSVR.exe' file lives and clicked 'Install'.
It installed drivers for this device and moved the 'Network Controller' to under 'Network Adapters'.

Also a new choice of 'Wireless Network Connection' has appeared under 'Network Connections. This choice was not there before.
However the wireless button still does not work on the laptop and I cannot turn the wireless connection on.
But at least this is a step forward.

Another Update

The wireless button has now decided to turn 'on' and stay 'on'. On the plus side the wireless lan feature now works, on the negative I cannot turn it 'off'.

Pressing of the button makes no difference whatsoever. The buttons green light is always 'on'.

There must be something in a script somewhere I need to address.

Cheers
