Amilo Li 1818 - Wireless restricted to SiS card?

Postby KitamuraComputers » Sun Aug 09, 2009 12:31 am

Hi all,

I've had my Li1818 running for a while now, and she's been great. I've got Hackintosh on here, and it does not work with the in-built SiS 163u card. Before you say I'm promoting hacking, that's not my subject.

I've tried two wireless cards, a Broadcom Apple one, and an Atheros card from a Toshiba, and both times the wireless indicator doesn't light. Now the Atheros is from a Tosh, which has a hardware wireless on/off switch like the Li1818. Windows 7 simply says the wireless is turned off, with both. The drivers install fine.

Is there any wireless card that will work with the hardware WLAN switch, or am I locked to using this crap SiS card? I've read that shorting two pins on the card can force the WLAN to switch on, but I don't want to hurt my laptop (and I'm an experienced solderer and engineer!). I'd rather just stick a card in. USB dongles are a no no, I need my ports free, there's only 3 of them.
