......cable finally came, was on back order. fitted it tonight no probs, other than a little tongue sticking out the corner of my mouth at times ;)

the result, still got the original problem!!! aaargghhhh!!!!

It's as tho there is something loose, dunno if it's in the screen itself....am at a loss now......

any ideas??? anyone???

I have already re-seated all cables...three times....

I should stress that I'm no expert, but you could try replacing the inverter itself. I've got a spare that I ordered but didn't need and will be happy to sell for cost, which was about £10 (i'll check) including p&p

I am begining to think it may well be the screen itself.....

I dunno if a faulty invertor would create the problem i have....verticle lines, screen breaking up, ghosting out to white blah blah...

hrmphhh

Hi all,

I'm also experiencing the blank screen syndrom with my daughter's Amilo Pi 1505.
I removed the screen frame and traced the problem down to the already mentioned inverter cable.
The label on the cable reads

GL 60083-10
Cable inverter L 60110

Could someone explain again where exactly and how to order a replacement part ?

Thanks in advance,

Gilles

they're dead easy to order if you go to the Fujitsu Siemens website they have a recommended UK dealer for parts http://uk.ts.fujitsu.com/support/spares.html - i think the cable is £3 plus p&p.

For more on this see related topic topic,2678,-pi-1505-Screen-only-works-at-certain-angles.html

this is fiddly but touch wood mine's still going strong after my hamfisted repair job, so definitely worth trying.

Thanks for responding.
I've tried to email the above company, but no response. Also they have a page with several dealers. Could you be more specific about which company actually carry the inverter cable ?
Thanks in advance.

FWIW, I succeeded in removing the square clip behind the fan, and pulling off the inverter cable without any problem.

Thanks again,
Regards,

Gilles

I'm afraid I can't remember. But I rang them and explained the problem and they told me which company to contact. Best I can do I'm afraid

My Amilo Pi 1505 now also has the intermittent screen problem. Before I embark on a diy repair, can anybody tell me how to remove the screen bezel? There are many rubber bits and I don't want to start damaging anything unnecessarily. Also, there are two small black plastic circles on the bezel close to each hinge. Are these just locating dowels?

I solved all this some time ago and I thought I'd just send an update in case someone else has the same problem. There are four screws at the top of the screen and two at the bottom. The bottom two are hidden by small black plastic circles and can be prised out using a sharp pointed tool - I used a metalwork scriber.

The small piece of the fascia held in by its own screw mentioned in damonbotley's instructions is also held in by a screw on the outside of the laptop case near the battery bay and the left hinge when viewing from the rear of the laptop. This screw is covered by a black plastic circle.

As other people have said, the design is poor. Fujitsu Siemens should recall these laptops and fix them for free. Instead they and their spares distributor (acal supply chain) make a profit from this 'bodgy' cable. The price of the cable is rather high (about £10) and the postage and packing is even more extortionate (another tenner roughly). The tiny little cable came in a very large box rather than a jiffy bag. By this logic, a new laptop would be shipped in its own double-stacked standardised freight container.
