Upgrade HDD on Amilo 3520 to SSD drive - possible?

Postby greedy » Sun Sep 13, 2009 9:43 pm

I didn't manage to find any details on what kind of drive my 3520 has. I would like to upgrade it to an SSD drive if it's possible, but I don't what kind of interface it has at the moment. Does anyone have any info? I'm guessing PATA. If so, would it be possible to just throw one of these babies in it?

The Ui 3520 has a 1.8" P-ATA HDD. So your replacement candidate won't fit.
In the german partner forum the user XBit linked a how-to about upgrading the RAM including some photos. Some of these photos show the HDD:

I put one of these babies http://www.lexar.com/ssd/expresscard.html in my 3520 (Mine is the 8GB version though) and installed Linux on it.
The BIOS sees it no different than a USB memory stick but I'm sure you can make Windows XP think its a non-removable drive http://www.msfn.org/board/multiple-partition-usb-stick-multi-boot-os-t69211.html&s=41b52802643706c6553604559a8a38b6. It has the added benefit of not sticking out like a USB memory stick as its flush with the case once fully inserted.
