Amilo pi 2515 start up problem

Postby Kasia » Sat Sep 19, 2009 5:00 pm

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Amilo pi 2515 and would really like to find out what I might be able to do to fix it so I can avoid forking out for a new laptop! Anyone willing to help will have to bear in mind that I have no idea what the right words for things are, I am pretty thick when it comes to technical jargon! I will try and explain things the best I can!

The problem I am having is for the last few weeks when I turn on my laptop it takes about 15 tries, sometimes more! I turn it on and for the first few times nothing really happens apart from a bit of a revving sound and some lights light up on the left hand corner (I have no idea what these lights mean!), when this happens I hold down the start up button until it turns off and I keep trying again. After a while the fujitsu siemens image comes up with the loading bar on but it only goes about 80 percent of the way and then it freezes again, it says something about pressing F2 or F12 but nothing happens when I do this so I just carry on turning it off again until it finally starts up. Once it has finally turned on there are no problems at all.

Does anyone know what is going on and how I would go about fixing it? Thank you in advance for any help :)

If you press F2 while the logo is shown you should enter the BIOS. If it doesn't work the first time, retry. There you will find several tabs on the upper edge of the screen. In one of them you should find a menu item called "show splash image", "boot time diagnostic screen" or similar. Switch this option an reboot.
During the next boot the logo should not show up, instead you will see some status messages by the BIOS about processor, memory, and hard disk.
If the notebook hangs up next time you might see some error message. Please report this here. If you don't see an error message report what was shown last.

I just tried this, I pressed the F2 and looked for the tab you said but I didn't find anything like what you said, the tabs said
Main - Info - Advanced - Security - Power - Boot - Exit
I looked in the boot section but still couldn't find anything like what you said, just =
LAN boot [Disabled]
Boot options
I entered Boot options but still found nothing similar.
I then went through the other options and the only place I found anything about Bios was in info where it said =
BIOS Version: 1.05c

I thought I would point out that it just started up twice with no problems this time! It seems worse the longer it has been switched off.

It says

Set up warning
Setting items on this menu to incorrect values may cause your system to malfunction.
Execute disable bit: [enabled]

There is nothing selectable in this section.
