Amilo Li 1718 - Locating the harddrive

Postby ddennis84 » Mon Oct 05, 2009 2:06 pm

I have a FS Amilio Li 1718 (model: MS2212) notebook which will no longer boot up (I get a windows error recovery message each time I attempt to start it up and it won't start in safe mode). I've purchased the following product...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001A5SK56/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

I want to connect this to the Amilo's hardrive and transfer my files onto another PC before resinstalling windows/ recovering. I have never previously attempted to play about with hardware before and my knowledge of PC's/ laptops is minimal to say the least. I've taken off what appears to be the main covering from the bottom of my laptop - it doesn't look as if it is in there however.

Could somebody describe where the harddrive is located in this model, and how I go about getting to it/ connecting it to the product I've brought above.

Any help will be much appreciated. I will try and post a photo of the bottom of the laptop when I'm not at work if that will make it easier.

I don't know how a Li 1718 looks from the inside, but removing the service door is the right way.
Here's a photo of my notebook:

The hard drive is situated in the silver box on the bottom of the image. You should see something similar. I have to unscrew the three screws that hold it, then I can take it out by pulling it to the left side.

http://m.flickr.com/photo.gne?id=3984476076& appreciate your response and handy image you've attached. See above for a photo of the bottom of mine which appears to differ slightly from your model. Hope the image quality is ok cos it was taken on my phone. When you refer to the silver box at the bottom left do you mean the larger of the two ?

I'm viewing your photo from my mobile so its quite difficult to get a good view of it and work out what I'm looking at. can you work out from my photos where the hd is located on this model? I can upload further photos if necessary. Thanks again

It seems like the Li series has a totally different design than the Amilos I've seen so far. The HDD isn't underneath the service door.
According to the manual it is behind the cover on the right side that is fixed with two screws:

http://m.flickr.com/photo.ne?id=3984047801& thanks for the link. It won't load properly on my mobile though so will check it out tomorrow at work. I think I've found it and have unscrewed the two screws to right side of laptop as suggested. See photo above. Does that look like the one? Not sure how to get it out though. Excuse me for being such a dance!

Sorry but your last link seems to be broken. I only get some "not found" message.

Yes, that's your HDD. You should get it out by pulling the plastic clip in the middle. This may require a slight force to release it from the interface.
