M1451G DVD drive removal(updated topic: probably dead hd)

Postby Lehewi » Thu Oct 22, 2009 10:01 am

Hi,

I have a problem with the case mentioned in the topic. I atleast couldn't find a solution on the boards probably since its such an old laptop.

At one point the machine wouldn't start and rebooted after a blinking bluescreen. Bluescreen stated something like Unmountable_boot_disk. I then tried to repair the disk with an xp installing cd but it appears that the dvd drive is broken.

Which leads me to my original question, how do I remove the original drive and install a new one? I have old amilo's and therefore plenty of spare parts.

Thanks in advance

Small update:
The dvd drive apparently works. However, now the hdd wont work. I can get into repair console but it cant read the hdd so I cant run fixboot or any other since it doesnt recognize where the OS is.

I get the feeling the problem is hardware and not software so I took the laptop to where I bought it from. Even tho its old it still has guarantee... I'll write here when I know what was wrong.
