Possibly corrupted hard disk? This doesn't need to be Amilo-specific...

This indicates a defective boot loader. As mentioned by gryzor the HDD might be faulty. But it could also just be a problem of the contents on the HDD. Try reinstalling Windows and if it doesn't work, check your HDD with a Live CD.

The Si 1520 should not cause any mayor trouble when trying to install Win7.

Yup - it suffices to say, the bootloader lies very much before the actual OS, so there's no issue of incompatibility here. So, as hikaru said, the data on the HDD must have a problem. I jumped a bit ahead and said it may be a fault with the HDD, but there's also a chance that the data is just corrupted and it would be fine with a reinstall.

Anyone know why the official Fujitsu site says the SI1520 is not compatible with Win 7?
I have the SI1520 with C2D T7200 and 2Gb RAM, and I would like to install Win7, but I got scared by the fact that Fujitsu denies any support (they are not even saying that it's "partially working", they just say that the SI1520 is "not compatible" with Win7!)

There's your answer:

It's common politics to claim incompatibility for anything they don't want to support. The Si 1520 is officially incompatible with 3GB of RAM. But they work fine for me. Some even made it with 4GB. But it's a gamble. Unfortunately I don't belong to the lucky ones.
It's officially incompatible with Linux and OpenSolaris. Both work fine. Actually Debian works better than XP or Vista ever did. I guess you have a similar experience with Ubuntu.
500GB HDDs are not supported. But mine runs with one for several years.

You should rather read the incompatibility warning as: "Try it if you want, it might work. But don't blame us if it doesn't."

I suspected that, but what about drivers for the chipset, and the various hardware of the laptop? Where can one find them?
Thanks

The chipset is a GM945 northbridge and an ICH7M southbridge. You should find drivers on Intels website. But I guess Win7 has them on board. For the other drivers (e.g. cardreader) the Vista drivers might work.
Sorry, I can't give you detailed infos since I have no Win7.

I've installed Windows 7 Professional on my SI1520 and everything works out of the box, except the card reader.
I'm going to look for the drivers and report if I get any success.

*EDIT*: The Drivers for Vista work, or at least they get installed (I don't have any memory cards with me so I can't check). Just remember that this is valid for 32bit version only (the 64bit versions of Windows require signed drivers, so I'm not sure those for Vista will work on Win7).

Hi,

The problem of the card reader's installation in Win7 x64 ("Base System-device" as it is appeared in device manager) is solved with the installation of RICOH-R5C83x-84x-Flash-Media-Driver-6000112 (SD Support- I don't know the other cards!).

Thank you!

Hi

I hope someone still reads this blog. I have successfully installed Windows 7 Premium Home 64bit on my SI 1520. Everything runs perfectly apart from the external microphone and the keyboard volume control (blue F keys). I´ve tried to install several drivers for the sound chipset, but without success. Can anybody who has installed Windows 7 on his 1520 give me advice?

Thanks

I'm sorry I can't help you. Everything works on mine (but I installed the 32 bit version)

Thanks Luca for your effort

After trying again for several hours I´ve managed to get the microphone run at least. Although Windows said the best driver for the audio system is installed, I clicked on "update driver" again and magically a new driver was downloaded and vow, it worked. I hope it will be the same with the keyboard driver, I just couldn´t keep my eyes open last night.

Thanks again

It's possible that the 64bit version does not include all the same drivers as the 32 bit.
Still I'm sure you should be able to get everything working since the si1520 does not have any "strange" hardware.
Good luck!
