When you start the notebook you should either see the POST messages which tell you how much RAM you have, which drives are installed and some other things or you should see the FSC logo. During this time press repeatedly F2 to enter the BIOS. There you can navigate with the cursor keys. I don't know the BIOS of the Pa 1538 but somewhere you should find a list of enabled and disabled devices. One of them is your WLAN card, most likely labeled with WLAN or Wireless. If this is set to disabled change it to enabled, save and exit the BIOS by pressing F10 and reboot your notebook.

AS I CAN SEE ON BIOS MENU there are only these:
main - with system time and date, sata hard drive and cdrom, system memory and extend memory
info - Bios informationand version, processor : cpu type and info, manufactureer, product name, notebook id and UUID
Advanced - USB BIOS legacy support - enable or disable
Security - supervisor password is, user password is, set supervisor password, set user password, password on boot
Boot - lan boot, boot devise priority
Exit.
nothing with wlan

One more thing, on the device panel there is a error yellow for a usb devide!

According to your information there is no option to (de)activate the WLAN module. Can you see it in the device manager of Windows or do you see any exclamation marks or question marks?

Hello,

I have the same problem with my pa1538, I tried different OS's (Win XP 32 bit, Win 7 pro RTM 32bit, Win 7 ultimate 64bit beta, Kubuntu 9.10) and they behaved all the same - no OS detected Wlan card, so the isntallation of the drivers won't solve this issue. It seems to be a HW error. There is no option to enable/disable WLAN card in bios.

so there is a question - is there any bios flash or win utility for enabling advanced BIOS options? or for diagnostic the mini PCI issues?

I also tried another mini PCI WLAN card, nothing changed, the problem was still the same. I think I will end up with USB WIFI interface, but it would be nice to find out the cause of this issue.
