HELP! FJ PI 1536 won't boot up half screen dead

Postby Nickzx6r » Tue Nov 17, 2009 7:31 pm

Hi,

I have an amilo pi 1536 T7200

I went to turn it on this week and it won' turn on properly. Half the screen has stopped working!!

It is an exact half of screen and a clean line right down the middle.

The left half seems zoomed in.

When i turn it on i see FU and some dots top and bottom on the left hafl. After a while i get a turqoise screen on the left, still nothing on the right. It appears the right side is on as there's definatelylight behind it.

when i press f2 for the bios setup i just get a blue half screen with no writing.

i have stripped and re built to ensure alll ribbons seated etc... but to no avail.

The same happens with or without the h/d and i've tested each stick of ram, same problem.

I'm thinking motherboard, graphics (ati 1400) or cpu.

Any thoughts??

If i do have to replace the m/board any idea which one???

Thanks for any help

Can you try an external monitor?

i have connected an external which displays in full but with vertical lines.

sometimes it will boot in safe mode - other times i get a blue screen with memory parity error message. I've tried each memory stick sepertely to no avail.

do you think it could be the graphics card memory??

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it is the graphics card if even an external monitor doesn't work correctly and the main memory seems to be ok.
To be on the safe side that it's not the main memory you could run memtest for some hours (if this still works).

Cheers fo that

I'll giv memtest a whirl to prove if i can get it to run

Any ideas which graphics cards would be suitable? And where to buy from?? I currently have an ati x1400. Any replacement doesn't need to be all singing or dancing - just average - i won't be gaming etc...

Are graphics cards generic in laptops?? (This is the first laptop i've had - i normally stick to desktops - much easier to fault find!!)

Thanks for all your help so far
