Problems with hard drives, CD/DVD-devices, firmware updates, USB stick, card reader,...

Hi Guys, My first post, so excuse if it is an obvious question. I am intending to use Pro Tools 8 on my Amilo 1818 and it states that it should not be run on the OS hard drive. Can I use either a firewire hdd or a usb hdd and if so how do I get Pro Tools to recognise the external hdd?.
Thanks,
Wilko

I don't know this software but I guess that it wants to be installed to another HDD due to performance reasons.
USB has a very poor performance compared to the internal HDD and the Li 1818 has no Firewire port (btw: only firewire 800 would be reasonable in this case, firewire 400 is still much slower than the internal HDD).
So the best would be to install Pro Tools to the internal HDD despite of the warning. If this is not possible the only chance I see is to buy an e-SATA-expresscard to connect an external HDD.
