How to remove PA 1510 CD/DVD-drive (Optiarc)?

Postby DjHemmo » Wed Dec 02, 2009 2:02 pm

Hello!
I have problems with my PA 1510 CD/DVD-drive (Optiarc something, can't check right now).
Sometimes it won't show up in BIOS, checked this because Windows XP home didn't show CD/DVD-drive.
Not sure if that drive is really broken, or cables loose inside casing.

I'd like to remove that drive, but don't know how?
I know some screws need to be removed, but which ones actually?
Or, is there some else method to remove without removing screws?

If it's really broken there is no reasonable way to fix it. The question is more like: Is it really the drive that is broken?
To test this you could try another drive. If this works correctly your old drive is defective. If the new one doesn't work too, it's most likely the controller or some other serious problem.

Actually this drive works occasionally after shutdown and power off for while.
I managed to install one program from CD, worked fine, soon after inserted other CD but drive was missing from explorer.
I have now tried to clean contacts, there was some dust etc so may be reason why stopped working...
I will keep my eyes on this drive now, and if this problem continues, I'll post here again.

At the moment, CD/DVD drive is not working (visible on my computer).
Something is broken, I have no spare drive to test with.

Just to inform, my CD/DVD drive is not working.
It makes power-on noises when laptop is booted, but not recognised by BIOS or OS.
I still don't have other drive to test on this Pa 1510.
Feel free to suggest me compatible CD/DVD drive models, if I could somewhere buy suitable drive.

Edit:
There is only one connector, and I cleaned all those small pins. That didn't help, now it doesn't even occasionally show up when booting.
It gets power but seems like datalines are not working? Or something broken inside drive.
