Amilo Pi 3560 screen brightness issues

Postby mrsaccess » Sat Dec 05, 2009 9:20 pm

Hello, I have an Amilo Pi 3560 F2 which comes with a nVidia GT240M video card.

My problem is that I can’t adjust the screen brightness, thus it is always set to the maximum setting and makes it very hard to work with.

I have tried with the latest Linux kernel (2.6.32) and the latest drivers from nVidia (both latest stable 190.42 and latest beta 195.22) without any luck. I have tried almost everything (/proc/acpi, /sys/, nvclock etc) without any success.

Ideas and suggestions are very welcome as the monitor is too bright to work with in a normal room. Thanx!

As a workaround:
Is it possible to adjust the brightness before the Linux kernel boots up? Or is the brightness (chosen in Windows) remembered?
Are there any options regarding brightness in the BIOS? (e.g. always max brightness, remember last state...)

Did you try to load a brightness applet in Linux - maybe it can be controlled via software, just not by the keys?

Regards

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, the workaround works! I find it out yesterday accidentally.
During BIOS boot or while you are in the grub menu to choose which OS you want to boot in you can adjust the brightness. Of course in order to re-adjust it you will have to reboot. Not the best solution but at least it makes working with the laptop easier.

The various Linux applets don’t work. Actually they are usually just frontends to /proc/acpi/video/something/brightness or a similar path in /sys. nvclock is a utility that doesn’t need these interfaces as it goes directly to the graphics card’s registers but this isn’t working either.

Let’s hope that support will be added someday. :)
